Bring modest, breathable clothing for church visits, sturdy shoes for ruins and cobblestone streets, and a swimsuit for the coast. Add sun protection, a refillable water bottle, and a light jacket — and you’ll be ready for both learning and leisure.

CLOTHING:

Year-Round Essentials

  • Comfortable walking shoes (broken-in sneakers or light hiking shoes)

  • Modest outfits for monasteries & churches (covered shoulders & knees; scarf for women)

  • Lightweight pants or skirts

  • Casual shirts or polos (breathable fabrics)

  • Quick-dry clothing (helpful for hand-washing while traveling)

  • Sleepwear and undergarments

  • Light jacket or sweater (cool evenings, especially near the sea)

  • Swimsuit (Aegean coast, hotel pools, hot springs)

  • Hat, sunglasses, and lightweight scarf (for sun and modesty)

Spring & Fall (March–May, Sept–Nov)

  • Light layers — temps vary from 60–80°F (15–27°C)

  • Light rain jacket or travel umbrella

Summer (June–August)

  • Extra breathable clothing (linen, cotton — summers can be hot and humid)

  • Sandals with good support (for evenings, not long walking tours)
